As someone making the switch from the PC to Mac world because of the iPod, I'd say Apple is on the upswing here. At least 3 friends of mine have made the switch as well.
I'd say plenty of people are beginning to realize there is a world besides Microsoft out there and the iPod is the ambassador of all of this. Speaking for myself but maybe others, once I go over to Mac, I'm not going back. So as long as Apple and the iPod stay relevant, I think you're going to see iPod users stick with their iPods and also buy Macs next time around.

For this arena, the tables are turned, and the person trying to preach the gospel of some Microsoft music player will sound like the Apple nuts I used to scratch my head at in 1998. Microsoft would have to do something complete revolutionary to change these dynamics, and I think they're too much of a behemoth to pull that one off.

You have to think that the thunderbolt has a slight negative thing about it that is hindering its sells. The battery life.

However look 2 years out. If back in the day MacWorld Expo could get North and South then Apple should not have a problem with getting 2 or more of the building as well.
Two years ago WWDC took weeks to sell out. Why would Apple want to spend a ton more to reserve a much larger facility at that slow rate?
I wonder if these events will start doing something to limit scalping? What could they do?

Apple once again confirmed that more and more people are moving in the Mac camp. The stock is still cheap. In the next 6 months we will see more switchers as new products come out.

The previous-gen i7 iMac was tempting me to replace my 2008 8-core Pro, as the 27" I have at work is pretty fast. Since I want to save space and was planning on a new screen, I'm right on the edge. Thunderbolt really eliminates my need for PCIe slots, and I would love to regain some desk space.�

this is APPLE we are talking about. nothing is free and nothing is cheap.
No one is expecting it to be free, but there better be more than what can be done for less. Apple likes to throw stuff and hope fanboys will pay without question. I am all for paying but not if there is nothing there but what other are offering for less or even free.
Reminds me of the New York Times and wanting payed subscription. Sure I will pay if there is benefit like them actually doing news and not just copy paste stories. You want my money you have to offer me real quality and substance as I figure most who are not from the Apple fanboys club will agree. :rolleyes:

Where? I just checked the Top 200 Best Selling iTunes Songs & there's only ONE .69c song all the way at #196.
In fact, there's only 3 .99c songs, two of which are in the bottom 25.
I realize that this was the labels doing & not Apple, but that's crazy.
I've seen numerous $0.69 songs. If you're always looking at brand new stuff you may not see them.

This would be a nice UI for ebooks - just swipe your finger/hand across the display to turn the page.
The None-Touch (presumably so named as it sounds more pleasing than "Non-Touch", and is a play on "One-Touch") name would imply that at least some control can be achieved without touching the screen.

Sure you can. What you can't do is grab stuff and assume that it does the right thing without checking it for yourself. That's equally true for software developed in house, or developed by subcontractors or commercial partners. It has little at all to do with public vs. private source code.

This is absurdly false. In the debt service was approximately $400 billion. In that year personal income taxes amounted to $1044 billion dollars. Corporate taxes amounted to $354 billion dollars, and other taxes (which includes social security) amounted to $1009 billion dollars. The total tax receipts by the Federal government was over $2.3 TRILLION dollars.
The assets OWNED by the United States (it's citizens and the government), excluding those owned by foreign investors, were $62.5 trillion dollars in 2005.
So the total national debt is less than 4% of the net worth of the cournty.
PS: For what it is worth, a measure of a healthy business is a debt to worth ration of 2 to 1. In other words, if the US were a business, it would be doing uncommonly well. Apple would be doing even better!

1. Pages 2 does have an auto-correct feature. It's in preferences.
A major functional snafu is that you can't add auto-correction data from the GUI of Pages, you have to go into the preferences. In Word you are able to right click on your red squiggly word, and you can set a default auto correct right there from the Contextual menu. NeoOffice has the same function. This is sorely lacking from Pages.
