An eleven-year-old boy in Northern California accidentally downloaded (http://www.necn.com/06/05/10/Boy-accidentally-downloads-99900-Smart-p/landing.html?blockID=247714) the $999.99 BarMax bar exam preparation application (iTunes link (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/barmax-ca/id345722008?mt=8)) using an iPod touch. He didn't mean to make the purchase and was surprised when it started to download the 1GB app. His mother was equally shocked, especially after she learned the price and that her son had not been prompted for an iTunes password.

They paused the download and went to an Apple store but were told that the store couldn't help. However, the boy's mother then emailed Apple and received a return phone call telling her that they would receive a full refund.

Nice. I can hardly wait for the MacBook Air update coming next, along with (I assume) the Mac Mini and MacBook updates.

i'm not seeing them in the store

It just updated a few minutes ago. Interestingly, a 256GB SSD is a $500 option, while a 1TB HD + 256GB SSD is a $600 option (I didn't realize 1TB drives were so cheap). Anyway, it adds 2-3 weeks to the shipping time. Not that I care, since I'm not getting an iMac (but every new Mac refresh gets me closer to the one I'll actually get - MacBook Air Rev E).

Sounds like the controls used in the alien spaceship in the movie "The Day The Earth Stood Still". Klatu would just wave his hands at the controls and things would happen.

Okay, now I might end up being branded as an Apple apologist for this, but this thread is bugging me.

Really, people, lighten up! It's like the corner of the carpet is smoking a little bit and people start shouting about how the whole house is about to burn down.

Now, certainly, these issues should be looked at with all due diligence. But do you honestly think that Apple isn't? Do you honestly think that Apple has simple ignored security all this time? Certainly not. The fact that OS X is as secure as it is clearly shows that Apple has done a good job so far. Now, maybe we've crossed an invisible barrier on the scale of the visibility of the platform, and now a lot more people are trying to target OS X, so more vulnerabilities are being found. But, there really is a big difference between a vulnerability and an exploit in the wild. iAdware is the closest thing to a true exploit I've heard of to date, and we don't even know what kind of vector it uses to get itself installed.

So, really, lay off the heavy handed "Apple has to start paying attention to security" nonsense. The implication that Apple hasn't been paying attention to security is just irritating, to say the least.

    Good points,

I agree with some of your points. Apple has done a good job historically, and currently with regards to security. I am not worried that my system is going to be taken over, or hacked the moment I go onto the internet, or sign into a public WIFI.

I do not agree that lower our demands for Apple with regards to security expectations. Now is Apple's chance to prevent getting an image that their competition has, with regards to holes in security. Apple themselves have advertised that Spyware, viruses, etc, are not part of the OS X experience (http://movies.apple.com/movies/us/apple/getamac_ads1/viruses_480x376.mov). In my opinion, that may be received as a challenge, or incentive for someone to make that argument a fallacy.

You and Westside_guy should get together...see post #24 in this thread. Then go see post #27.

    #24 HAHAHA !

I was aware of the link in post #27, that's why I thought it was an unveiling of the tricky little macrumors feature.

That's the normal Mighty Mouse pane. It changes to that when you're using one. I can see you've never used one...

Um, I'm using one right now. The preference pane shown on the site is different to the preference pane I have.

    Here's the site:

One question, what is he doing to that rabbit?

    What a strange clip!

Hehehehehe... when I was watching that I thought the rabbit was gonna spin around and eat the little guy!

Kinda like Microsoft were the big guy and Apple were the lil' guy...

The rest of the design is not so bad but I wish Apple would get over the urge to make things look like their physical incarnations. I know there is a name for this but it escapes me at the moment.

    Skeuomorphic?

It is a bit like that, though maybe not fully, it's more visual as opposed to functional (for example in address book you don't have to 'turn' a page on the screen).

Anyway it is a bit odd, and bound to be super polarising. Personally I think I'd live with it for a while as it does help it stand out from the other dozen+ windows I tend to have open.

The bottom line is that this is just one more EULA violation that people will ignore on a daily basis, unless MS implements some way of enforcing it.

reducing the number of cables connected to his computer is what he would be doing. Just one TB could possibly handle all of the cables through a hub.

Ah, so ultimately there will still be 7+ cables, just not connected to the computer itself.

This might be the time to buy a new iMac... finally :D

Really impressed with the specs and price point on these. Can't wait to see all of the options.

just confirmed with Apple...hopefully they'll remove that.

Anyway, looking forward to the spec bumps for the Mini, the Air and the Pro.

And really hope that everyone's iMacs will behave and be okay this time around.

I just found that out too and I want to cry :-(

Ha sound like me...typical college student. I've been selling stuff and have returned about 4 things in the past week because they all sucked!

I don't think this is indicative of a college student. I think it's smart to return things that aren't suited for you. I can think of many people who shop for clothes, for example, and they sit around with the tags on until they're given away because they're too small, dated, etc. ;)

Ha ha... when I glanced at the RSS feed I thought it said "Page 3 Features?". I thought: "Why the heck would MacRumors add a 'Page 3'? Much of the 'Page 1' stuff never comes to pass, and they've got 'Page 2' for the even less substantiated stuff..."

    :p

I thought the same thing. :p

And that's what bugs me. That's the only time I can think of on TV where they actually pulled a switcheroo instead of having the character killed or sending him or her on a long trip to visit Aunt Edna in Schenectady.

    Walt, from Lost, too.

I don't see the appeal of 2 and a Half Men too, or How I Met Your Mother. I honestly don't get it :p. Maybe I'm spoiled with stuff like Darkplace, Partridge, Peep Show etc.

Your sarcasm is inappropriate. This poster has a right to her/his opinion. There are plenty of folks that think that kids are a bad idea, especially in their case. I'm proud of the fact I don't have kids: I'd beat them just like Joan Crawford did in Mommy Dearest.

How does one buy stock anyway? (from the UK)

I have absolutely no idea on the subject, is it just a matter of buying a share at a couple of hundred dollars, watching Apple go through one of its "win" moments then selling it for a little profit ($50 or whatever) just as a starter? What about tax?

You can do this via your bank our internet, but i'm also a noob in this..
