So since the "ix.Mac.MarketingName" did not appear on some apps that required GPS -- it can be assumed that the new device does not have GPS capability (which could mean an Mac running Lion in a simulation environment -- hence the "Mac" in the name).

However, I also read that apps requiring voice input did not get the "ix.Mac.MarketingName" in their requirements and those that did get it were all universal apps.

Clearly, Macs have voice input capability, so maybe this really is in regard to the AppleTV 2, or possibly even an Apple-branded television like some have suggested recently is coming sooner than we think.

It sure would have been cool if when they accidentally pushed the code forward that used that resource bundle key that they would have accidentally also brought the resource bundle forward that had the actual product name in it. Although, it is possible that the "Marketing Name" has not yet been decided and a code name like "N98" would not have been too informative.

Apple certainly has something big up their sleeve for this year as they have been playing things very close to the vest despite the fact that we all know a huge data center is coming online.

One last guess.... maybe the White iPhone 4 that is on its way is not really an iPhone 4...... Maybe?

    Beaten in terms what what?

The entire Android platform only generates 1 billion dollars per year in revenue for Google.

On the flip side, the iOS platform generates 1.4 billion dollars per quarter through the iTunes store for Apple.

Google hasn't found a way to significantly capitalize on Androids market share and that is a major loss. Hell, Google could take over the other 30% of the market held by RIM/ect. and the yearly Android revenue would still be below Apples quarterly revenue for the iOS platform.

Obviously Google has the same opinion as other Android fans... marketshare is king.

Although... in the business world... cash is king.

Congratulations Google... you now have a lot of marketshare. What are you gonna do with it?

Oh yeah... you're an advertising company. I forgot!

Yes. I am sure the number 3-25 top selling smartphones all have hardware keyboards.

The 1 and 2 are both Apple iPhones and they don't have them though.

I suspect the sales figures of the iPhone 4 and 3GS probably surpass the top 8-10 Android devices combined.

That is called marketplace domination. Clearly a lot of people here don't have much business experience or understand how business works, but such control of a marketplace is significant, especially given the number of devices available for sale.

Does HTC sell more smartphones than Apple? Does Motorola? How about Samsung? No, no and no.

I believe samsung is the highest selling smartphone manufacturer when you take into account that it does have its own OS that it still sells. They are currently the highest selling phone manufacturer. It is difficult to compete with the iPhone. One factor many of you are simply ignoring is that if you want iOS on your phone you have to buy an iPhone. If you want android you do not have to buy a nexus. Limiting the amount of models that run the software will funnel all the sales into those models. It makes since when you think about it.

The second thing is do people consider the phone "families". Like how Samsung makes the Galaxy S then they redo it several times in the Year. They release it on different carriers with slightly different bodies and button layout and different radios. It happens their is a Galaxy S phone on every major US Carrier. The LG Optimus 1 is on every US carrier but Boost mobile.

Apples got to be thrilled, they got just what they wanted. A good dose of conflict and confrontation.

I truly believe Steve is addicted to chaos.

Gee, is that why their stock goes up 10 points at the end of every quarter?

I'll take the dose of conflict and confrontation with my Apple stock.

And how is your Samsung and MS stock doing?

    Enough said!

Also, Apple is Evil and you are living in Steve Job's RTF.

    and... and... 4G.

    and... widgets.

Well, the fake 4G carriers are using is faster than the 3G Apple supports, so that's an ok argument.

Apple is pretty evil, but all multibillion dollar corporations are. You don't get rich by being nice. Steve jobs also seems like a jerk in all of those little e-mails he sends out to various people.

Widgets are cool, the iPhone needs an option for them!

You forgot the "Android is open and iOS is closed!!" fanboy argument :(, that's the only one that doesn't really make much sense.

While I would never buy an "iTV" it does sound somewhat interesting sorta like how the Apple TV sounded interesting at first.

I could see an iTV that essentially is a big giant wireless monitor for Macs/iDevices. It could have cameras on it so that you could use Facetime or whatever it's called with others. Maybe cheaper TV shows and stuff off the iTunes store.

While we may all doubt it at first like so many did when the iPad first came out, I wouldn't be surprised if something like this becomes a monster hit.

Don't say iTV. You know how many brits twisted their knickers when it was rumored Apple was going to rename Apple TV iTV?

"OMG THAT IS THE BLOODY NAME OF MY FAVOURITE TV NETWORK"

Don't remove the , it indicates the sarcasm in that comment. I was pointing out to the guy the fallacy of his argument in diminishing Google's work that he was also diminishing Apple's work on OS X.

I believe both companies have a lot of merit for what they did. I'm not pro-anything or anti-anything here. The point of my comment was to say that Apple and Google put in a lot of effort into making their OSes.

Now you're arguing what exactly aside from just wanting to insult me ?

I don't know if he was talking foul about Apple's work.

Absolutely true ? When did Web browsers start to do process scheduling, user input, graphical sub-systems, GUI frameworks, hardware interaction, etc.. etc..

Chrome OS is much more than a browser, it's very much a OS who's desktop environnement happens to be a Web browser, rather than a file explorer like Finder.

So you think, Google's Chrome OS invented or made all these things possible?
    Were there no browsers before?

Again, let's drop the Google hate. It has no place in this thread. Why do you insist on beating on them ? Leave the corporate politic between Steve and Eric (now Larry) and let's discuss OS X some.

    Sure, lets drop that. Sure.

I don't insist. I for once really like them on certain grounds, but absolutely don't on the other. Similarly with Apple; as both are for-profit organizations.

The sordid truth of MS is that there are so many pain-in-the-butt issues that this following year they are seriously going to loose market to Apple and OSX.

    Apple: Learn from Google http://dev.chromium.org/developers/design-documents/software-updates-courgette

Problem is the App Store. I don't think Apple thought about this in regards to the Mac App store having larger programs. Sure the iOS App store is easy....most apps are small.

The latest patch to Aperture for example.....I bought through the App store....and it had to download 600+ MB as the whole app just to patch, whereas people who already had it got a delta update through Software Update.

Here's hoping in Lion they merge the two somehow....at least with Apple apps.

    Ahem... Time Machine!

I believe icerabbit was referring to a feature to restore an item to its original location once putting it in the trash. Windows has this feature in the recycle bin and it's a handy little feature.

This isn't to do with Time Machine as the user has not yet deleted the item from the Trash and the system.

It's time to hold Apple's feet to the fire. Being soft on them isn't helping them.

I agree. Tough love is best here. It's better to have the vulnerabilities exposed in this manner than in a live scenario. Let's just hope the press from this is enough for Apple to fix the problem before we have something bigger than a proof-of-concept exploit.

It doesn't look like the right click problem has been addressed - the top looks like it uses the same guts as the regular MM, because I had to take mine apart 3 times to clean it.

Well, obviously, I think it's gonna be just as bad.

The OP statement was that the 360 was the only HD player on the market right now. Which clearly isn't true. Upscaling isn't HD in my book. But that is me.

I think the OP was talking about game play in HD. I've tried the component HD cable for my PS2 on my plasma HDTV and it's nicer, but it's only 480p at best, depending on the title. I use an upscaling DVD player that outputs to 1080i and though it is HD, it still doesn't have the image data of a true HD title. The only time I've been able to see REAL HD is through my DishTV HD programming--again, depending on the source--or connecting a Mac to the plasma and viewing Apple's HD trailers. You're right though, the HD content still isn't readily available.

Read a rumor about MS dropping the price of the 360 by $100 for the holidays to help combat the release of the PS3. That would put it almost half the price of the PS3!

Even more entertaining is the fact that Apple is so arrogant they fail to realize how stupid they look.

    Suing their biggest vendor.

It doesn't get any more stupid than that.

So by this logic you should just give away any work you did to figure out what sells in the market free to all your competitors.. yeah.. that's a great system.. and for your specific criticism, Apple has already prepared to switch manufacturers for some if not all the Samsung parts.

I just found that the person that was beat up was transgender and this was a hate crime. How come this is not all over the news? I guess hate crimes are okay now by black people but if a white person did this it would be the end of the world.
