I would love to have a new wireless Mighty Mouse but I already have the original. I might just wait until I get a new Mac to get one.

For some reason, I still hear many people complaining about this. The complaints will more than likely come from the fact of the lack of a "real" right-click.

Chartists come to absurd conclusions, such as AAPL having support at 60. This means a trailing P/E based on current earnings (without growth) of around 15. At 40, we're talking a P/E of ten. This assumes that AAPL's growth days are over, as of now. Does anything we know about the company, including its historical growth and product offerings comport with the idea of Apple turning into Dow Chemical? I don't think so.

PE's historically range between 7(bear lows) and 18 (bull highs) so 10 would be about the point where the weekly P&F chart (54) turns bearish.

However you must consider that AAPL is 100% discretionary consumer spending so when recession hits consumers will cut back in favour of things like food and oil. Want another negative, here is one, 18 billion in cash...held in a fast depreciating currency (lost half its value over the past 6 years). Or how about this, DRM free music, sure to result in more file sharing and less iTunes sales. And on the topic of iTunes, another negative, all that new competition...one of them is sure to break the AAPL hold on that market.

That weekly P&F chart is the worst I have seen in the past 5 years

Though I never used to walk in the place unless my girlfriend wanted to go, I've taken a liking to A&F clothing lately for some reason, probably because it's high quality and often goes on sale. Trying to keep the gaudy logos and etc. to a minimum though. The moose/caribou is tolerable, and I nearly didn't buy the hoodie because of the enormous "ABERCROMBIE" on the sleeve, but it was only $30, so I'm not about to complain.

And a bunch of cheap photo accessories from DealExtreme... a hotshoe leveler, wireless Nikon remote (generic, unbranded version), new strap, a wideangle lens for my iPhone, and a couple of cheap filters for my lesser used lenses.

    http://www1.dealextreme.com/productimages/sku_2341_1.jpghttp://www1.dealextreme.com/productimages/sku_39814_1.jpghttp://www1.dealextreme.com/productimages/sku_7033_1.jpg

Considering I got 10 items (including 2 straps and 4 filters) for $70, I'm satisfied with only mediocre quality.

[Edit] Oh, also picked up this silly Nikon lens cup as a fun gift for a friend; it was wildly overpriced, but the novelty is worth it. It's too bad it's actually a terrible mug.

    Never too late.

Isn't that what people said when Apple released the iPod - its too late... Now look.

It's too late for Microsoft - they are just riding Apple's coattails now, in a desperate attempt to create something that can compete with iTunes+iPod...but thats all it is, a desperate attempt

    What a team player.

300 people sitting on their hands, while he 'plays'.

    Charming.

    Oddly, I agree with you.

I'm not sure I'd see this guy as my idol, not even a little.

Sure, maybe one night where you just get some sort of pass but do you really watch a dirty bitch with **** up your nose and a car you're too wasted to drive?

    Why not .223?

My choice for a 22LR would be the GSG-5. And for the AR platform... the DPMS LR-308  hell of a gun.

well, im only 17 and .223 is just to expensive for me to shoot...

and I dont know why I like the sig so much, I was at gander mountain the other day, and was feeling out all of the other .22's and it just feels the best to me...

it's going to be ether the sig, or the smith and wesson M&P 15-22. that is a nice gun also...

At one point, Apple got it certified as UNIX, so OS X is a UNIX platform, not just UNIX-like. Linux is probably fairly close to being able to be UNIX certified as well, but there is a money outlay that nobody wants to spend. To top it off, UNIX certification means zilch to the Linux community, so why would anyone pay to have it certified? I'm not even sure how Apple benefitted from their certification.

I believe Apple got the certification because they were calling themselves UNIX prior to getting the certification and it had to do with legalities. I do know, at least at the time, it ONLY applied to Leopard running on Intel machines because of how the certification works.

It's paper and nothing more. Whenever some Mac weenie is like "we're REAL UNIX unlike Linux" I know I can safely just slap him. Certification means very little. Actual POSIX complianceamong other thingsis what matters.

alright! nice! let us know how they are doing, and run the bigadv units if you can

    Welcome!
Please run the bigadv units, you will get much better PPD. It looks like you are running the regular SMP client for now.
Use -smp 8 if the are 2008 or earlier, -smp 16 if they are 2009 otco...

Both computers now up-and-running. No complaints from the designers regarding poor performance :)

I'm running the standard client, I'll look into the other options when I got some spare time.

It's quite remarkable to see the performance boost compared to my G5 dual 1.8 that's been folding for years.

I guess now that Macs are only 20% of revenue, we're getting the "B-team" developers and designers.

Bad interfaces based on silly metaphors isn't a new phenomenon at Apple. May I remind you of this abomination?

This is one of those threads that enforces the Apple fanboi stereotype. It's 1mm. That's it. Steve Jobs is not out to kill your children anymore than he is to fleece you on your white iPhone purchase, and the typical person won't even notice anyway. Can we all move along now?

This cracks me up. By the time that most Android fanboys and mainstream media outlets picked up on this one it had already been debunked. Can we let it die already? Kind of embarrassing to use a proven inaccuracy as your strongest argument.

Android what a laugh! The OS is Linux which they effectively forked. The SDK is built on a Java work alike, a work a like that has a questionable amount of others people's code in it. On top of that they purchased the company that started out developing the concept of Android.

Ah. You mean similar as to how Apple purchased NeXT and based OS X on their NeXTSTEP OS?

Give it up. This has been discussed to death already.

fail. google didnt make android. and the fact that you used a winking smiley to illustrate your victoryfail makes it all the more sad. :-(

    See above.

whats not to say someone just changed the carrier name? I don't own an iphone but I did search and its totally possible.

I don't see a reason apple would need to create an iPhone for T-Mobile if the AT&T plan goes through. If it's rejected than maybe thats a reason then to possibly go on T-Mobile.

Anyone actually planning on buying this? Especially with a refresh right around the corner?

I dunno, September announcement and probably October for real availability seems a long time to wait.

I'm not a "normal PC/Mac user" so in my daily usage I do maybe 100x more than "Joe Blow, PC/Mac owner." I install software, test it, remove it, reinstall it. I beta test software, sometimes alpha software for many companies <hint, hint>. I'm so far removed from your average computer owner it's not even funny.

I put OSX through it's paces on a daily basis (yeah, that rhymes, I know it) and so when something crashes I don't directly attribute it to the operating system itself because I know from experience it can be most anything. When someone says "I got <xxx> problem, what can I do?" the first thing that crosses my mind is a mental checklist I've created over the 30+ years I've been doing this stuff, and it's a really long checklist covering software, hardware, and the most important part of all in the equation: humans.

I don't know what problems other people have, but for me, Windows isn't an issue. I could sit here and talk about it, but since it's a Mac forum that wouldn't be a good idea in many respects. The only time I've had a virus in decades was by using AV software - figure that one out. I don't use AV software presently, I don't use Firefox as most sheeple seem to do these days, I don't have issues with IE like most sheeple seem to do these days either.

I'm not trying to turn this into a you-know-what contest, suffice to say I don't do the casual websurfing/email/watch a movie stuff that most users - and yes that's a broad generalization, but when was the last time the guy walking out of an Apple Store with his son or daughter or whatever was planning to go home and rip DVDs and compile software? Hardly the typical activity of a typical user.

I use operating systems, pushing them to their limits and back, so when something breaks, I don't immediately blow off the software and say "IT SUCKS" like some people around here - and then have the nerve to say "But since it's the only game in town I use this software even though IT SUCKS and I won't pay for it ever so I keep using it illegally even though IT SUCKS" etc.

Just my $.02 and lot of change... but I think some people around here would do themselves a favor by either:

    a) paying for it then complaining to the software maker to improve it
    b) paying for it so your opinions actually mean something to those of that have and use it because we own it
    c) shut up before you dig yourself a hole you'll never climb out of

That's just me, of course... I'm not alone, but I'm not the kind to sit idly by and let someone trounce a good product for no good reason.

    bb

Folders still animate poorly in Launchpad (opening and closing) and transitions to and from full screen mode on Safari is a little choppy.

It certainly feels stable enough though.

I don't mind the "bubbles" in concept. What I think is hideous is the ovalness of them and the coloring. I'd prefer something lighter and beveled.

A lot of this comes down to personal preference. Personally, I think OS X's UIs have gotten better with each iteration. Imo, this new bubble ui is better than brushed metal, which was better than candy. Personally, I like UI elements that are shaded to look 3D (which these are not) so that they look like actual objects you are manipulating, what makes you prefer bevels to ovals? (not that there's anything wrong with that ;) )

I had the same thing happen to me for a $5 app I didn't even want. They told me to turn on the shopping cart...I was on iPad and there is no shopping cart...but there should be one.

With an iPad they told you to turn in the shopping cart? The shopping cart hasn't existed (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1915?viewlocale=en_US) since iTunes 9: "Note: With iTunes 9.0 or later, only 1-click purchasing is available." They recommend the wish list instead, but that's much less convenient--and you have to do add things yourself rather than having them automatically go there instead of purchasing them.

While I realize that this is the wrong place for it, that iMac I just bought is awesome although I was returning it either way for a larger hard drive so the update is best now.

Direct from DVD, it took Handbrake about 20 minutes to convert a movie to iTunes format. So sweet. And that's the lowest end 21 incher.

My Sony laptop does that in 10 minutes #justsaying
